The Orum House Book
Douglas Elliman, Michelle Oliver, Print Design, Book Design, Architectural Book
Douglas Elliman agent Michelle Oliver had the listing for the Orum Residence, designed by Zoltan Pali, AIA of SPF:architects, and she wanted to have a book designed to both show for potential buyers and the current owner’s keeping. Having a formal education in Architecture, I was thrilled at the opportunity to design a book for a properly designed residence.
In an ideal situation, I would have been given full creative control in working with the photographer directly and setting copy. However, given the nature of the real estate industry dictating the circumstances to work within, I made the most of the opportunity and treated the project much like an architectural book instead of a long-form brochure.
Photography and limited copy were provided entirely by the agent, and considerable time was required to edit each photo for issues that should have been addressed in the photo sessions or color correction for consistency. Floor plans, which were necessary for a unique design such as this, were retrieved through extensive research.
As with most projects developed for agents under Douglas Elliman, the designer is rarely, if ever, given a copy of their work. With this consideration, mockups demonstrate the final product.
