Typography, layout, & design for the children’s book How To Hold a Pencil
Author: Megan Hirsch
Publisher: Hirsch Indie Press
Megan had a brilliant idea for a children’s book which covered a topic that is often not taught or reinforced when children are beginning to learn how to write: how to hold a pencil. Apparently some studies have shown a correlation between how writing instruments are held and the success rate of adults (measured by various factors). Already having produced the excellent photography and a rough outline of the page order, Megan hired me to provide typographic treatment, titling, layout, and prepare the files for publication. It was a great, quick and fun project – but unfortunately I was left off the credits. A few images of spreads from the book are provided here, but really you should buy the book. Even if you’re an adult, it’s never too late to learn how to hold a writing instrument properly.
The book is available for sale here.
