Bookcases designed on musical notation: the heights of each shelf are based on bars of music.
Materials: Plywood, laquer, bolts
Each case is attached directly to the wall’s studs and designed to create an intentional spacing between the cases. The highly reflective gloss finish refracts the wall’s color and materials, making the cases appear like the black keys on a piano.
Three variations were produced, each able to be rotate 180 degrees for variety. Organization of a collection of books is then based on size, not necessarily subject. The intention behind this is for encouraging discovery: sometimes when a person is looking for something in particular, their eyes will happen upon something else which may be of interest or use at that time, but not thought of before hand.
